The world cup – a rubber stamp recycling opportunity?

Rubber stamp products is not something that jumps to your mind when you think about the World Cup but to handle the huge number of people who will come to South Africa many documents of all kinds are needed and most of them need to be stamped with a rubber stamp either with a text or a rubber stamp dater. When tourists pass through the passport control their passports will be rubber stamped and since there will be a huge increase of soccer fans coming to South Africa for the World Cup the passport control needs more staff – and more rubber stamps. But it is not just passport rubber stamps that will be needed. The demand for rubber stamp products will go up all over South Africa in almost every kind of business. When you want to rent a car the rental documents will be stamped using a rubber stamp. Insurance documents need to show dates and will be stamped with a rubber stamp dater. When you check out of hotels they will use rubber stamp products to stamp your receipts when you pay. When you buy products you want to take home with you they will be stamped with a rubber stamp product to get the VAT refunded and so on and so on.

The rubber stamp business in South Africa expects to see a more than 50% growth in sales during the World Cup. This extra demand will generate jobs and income for many people not just in South Africa but also in countries as far away as Austria, which historically is the industrial centre for production of the rubber stamp bodies.

You may ask what will happen with all these extra rubber stamp products once the World Cup is over?  Most likely they will be thrown away since the South African recycling industry is not well established yet so most of these additional rubber stamp products will end up in one of the huge garbage dumps all over South Africa.

Just think….what an opportunity for some enterprising person to start up a rubber stamp recycling centre in South Africa. It could be the beginning of a whole new recycling industry.
