A Level English Language

Should I Do A-Level English Language?
I really want to do english at university, but many people have told me that (no offence) like media studies it is a bit of a dodgy option to choose, like a wasted option if you know what I mean. So my question is, if I want to seriously do english does it actually matter if I do Language at A-Level or not? Will people care if I have or haven’t? Or could I spend that time doing something else (the other two options I have decided on thus far and English Lit and History)?
Thank you : )
Also I’d like to point out that I didn’t ask this question to get a grammar lesson thanks, I asked for some actual advice. Thanks to the people who are doing this, but seriously, there’s no need.
yes i would
did you see how easy the lit gcse exam was lol
and it may sound boring now but i enjoy when in class we got reading a good book
i wouldnt see it as a wasted choice, its your decision so odnt go by friends are saying

Exploring English Language Teaching $17.53 Routledge Introductions to Applied Linguistics is a series of introductory level textbooks covering the core topics in Applied Linguistics, primarily designed for those entering postgraduate studies and language professionals returning to academic study. The books take an innovative “practice to theory” approach, with a ‘back-to-front’ structure. This leads the reader from real-world problems and issues, through a discussion of intervention and how to engage with these concerns, before finally relating these practical issues to theoretical foundations. Additional features include tasks with commentaries, a glossary of key terms, and an annotated further reading section. Exploring English Language Teaching provides a single volume introduction to the field of ELT from an applied linguistics perspective. The book addresses four central themes within English language teaching: ‘Classroom interaction and management’; ‘Method, Postmethod and methodology’; ‘Learners’; and the ‘Institutional frameworks and social contexts’ of ELT. For each, the book identifies key dilemmas and practices, examines how teachers and other language teaching professionals might intervene and deal with these concerns, and explores how such issues link to and inform applied linguistic theory. Exploring English Language Teaching is an indispensable textbook for language teachers, and for post-graduate/graduate students and advanced undergraduates studying in the areas of Applied Linguistics, Language Teacher Education, and ELT/TESOL. |

English Grammar: Language as Human Behavior, Third Edition $50.99 For undergraduate and graduate level courses in English grammar, syntax, and writing; also appropriate for a course in teaching English at the secondary level.Approaching grammar as a process and not a product, this text engages students in a conversation about English that will help them reflect on how their language works and understand the social judgments that accompany language use—making them feel they are active participants in shaping their language rather than passive victims of grammar rules that someone imposes on them. Employing the terminology of traditional grammar combined with the insights gained by modern linguistic analysis, it describes English as an instrument of communication, and lays the necessary groundwork for thinking about language so that students can extend what they learn to new situations and apply their knowledge of language in ways most useful to them. Three different types of exercises support the learning and review processes and motivate students to think, talk, and write about English with increasing confidence and sophistication as the term progresses. |

Pathways to Teaching Series: Practical Strategies for Teaching English Language Learners $22.99 This book is for student teachers, experienced teachers new to English Language Learners, beginning alternative route teachers, and “career changers” who find themselves grappling with how best to teach English Language Learners on-grade level subject content in the regular classroom setting.“Who is this English Language Learner? How do I communicate with him/her? How do I prepare him/her for state standardized test? How do I teach him/her advanced reading skills when his/her vocabulary is so limited?” These are common concerns voiced by teachers (K-12th grade) as they express their inadequacies about teaching English Language Learners in the regular classroom. This text is designed to help answer these questions for all K-12th grade teachers by providing the necessary information and research-proven teaching strategies that are best for all learners including the English Language Learner. The book addresses the specific role that regular classroom teachers now play in ensuring that English Language Learners are acquiring English through the content subject areas. No child Left Behind (2001) raises the accountability level for all our students including English Language Learners. English Language Learners are no longer the sole responsibility of an ESL teacher, as all teachers must now teach English Language Learners English regular subject content. |

Teaching Reading to English Language Learners: Differentiated Literacies $22.99 This is a practical, research-based text designed to guide teachers in the development and implementation of programs for second language learners. This text blends theory and practice to provide grade-level and ESL teachers with the tools they need to differentiate literacy instruction for ELL students.Organized around the major findings from the National Reading Report, Teaching Reading to ELL Students addresses a critical national need for teachers to have new and better information on how to address the literacy needs of English Language Learners. Good teachers know that all children do not learn in the same way and at the same pace, and they are well aware that children who do not speak English need different methods to help them learn English and be successful readers and writers. The authors address the need to move the field beyond the current ‘one size fits all’ paradigm toward a broader view of how to create meaningful and relevant literacy programs for English Language Learners. For reading and writing instruction to be effective for Culturally Linguistically Diverse (CLD) students, meaning must be at the core of instruction. This book stresses meaning and relevance as the basis for all instructional activities and strategies. If meaning is at the center, it is not necessary to delay literacy instruction in English while students are learning to understand and speak English. The chapters in the book address in a concrete and specific way how literacy instruction needs to be modified for ELLs. Modification does not mean doing the same thing only slower, more frequently, after school or on Saturdays. Modification means doing something differently! |
